Survey Test Run: May 5-11 2019
Results
Thank you to everyone that helped us test out our survey! We had 25 squirrel observations and several helpful comments and questions throughout the week.
A quick look at the data everyone sent in showed that the squirrels spent most of their time foraging or eating. See the graph below for further breakdown of how time was spent. Interestingly, even though it was May and other food sources should have been available, squirrels were still spending 6% of their time scatterhoarding food! As for those of you with birdfeeders, further analysis showed that squirrels spent significantly more time on the ground when there were feeders present, which is probably what you would expect.
Goals
Our goals for this test run are to:
1. Make sure our behavior descriptions are understandable to everyone and we covered all behaviors you see.
2. Be sure the survey instructions make sense and are easy to put to use.
3. Double check that online data submission process is easy and frustration-free.

Expectations
Help us work out the kinks in our survey by spending 10 minutes observing a squirrel, recording the observations through our data sheet, and using the online survey to submit the data!
